Case study

Auto Parts Group

Energy Action ran a reverse auction across five leading retailers, benchmarked against Auto Parts Group’s expiring contract. The winning 24-month offer came in 22% below the benchmark, delivering a projected $15,000 saving.

The client

Auto Parts Group is a leading Australian distributor of automotive collision and mechanical parts. With over 47,000 product lines and five distribution centres, the business supplies thousands of repairers across the country. Its Smithfield site in NSW supports a large volume of warehousing and logistics operations.

The Problem

Auto Parts Group’s electricity contract for its NSW site was coming to an end.

Like many industrial operators, they were exposed to a volatile electricity market and facing a potential 30% increase on renewal.

With over 330,000 kWh of demand and no solar offset, even small changes in rates would have a big impact on costs.

“We were looking for a deal that matched our cost goals without adding complexity,”
said Mark Grace, the site manager at Smithfield.

The Solution

Energy Action ran a reverse auction across five leading retailers, benchmarked against Auto Parts Group’s expiring contract. The winning 24-month offer came in 22% below the benchmark, delivering a projected $15,000 saving.
The process provided a transparent view of market competitiveness and helped lock in certainty before further price rises.
